40th Annual Scholarship Banquet & Fundraiser

As of now this year’s 40th Annual Scholarship Banquet has been postponed until we get the rules and regulations for a banquet event.  It is our intention to have something to honor those who began Project Education Plus. Please still consider donating to PEP today so that we can resume as soon as it’s safe to do so.

Forty years ago, Vince Carter, Anne Gaddis, Louise Rhine, Rose Rhine, Lynette Smith, Marliyn Townsend, Wanda Triplet with assistance from Jesse White spearheaded a group of parents and community leaders to create opportunities for young people in Chicago’s Cabrini-Green neighborhood to improve academics, develop life skills, and promote participation in sports.

The organization, appropriately named, Project Education Plus (PEP), gave hope to hundreds of young people and changed the trajectory of their lives.

Today PEP continues to provide service and resources for the greater Chicagoland area that also includes senior citizen programming, holiday support for low-income families, college and career preparation and scholarships.

Welcome to Project Education Plus

PEP’s founders conceived Project Education Plus in 1980. Seeing a need for a regimented, innovative program with stability, PEP began as eight-week youth summer enrichment and organized sports program. PEP quickly expanded to a year-round agency with additional programs for senior citizens in the community.

In the ‘90s, PEP redesigned its focus to include college preparation and mentoring. It added a computer lab complete with computers, Internet access, photography, and other tech hardware to hold organized technology classes for the community. PEP has morphed into an agency that provides expanded services with separate program activities for youth in Pre-school thru Grade 3; Grades 4-8; high school, college mentoring, young adults, and senior citizens seven days a week.

Within the last two years, PEP Academy was started for the youth who need to complete their high school requirements. PEP was recognized as one of the top programs in Chicago by the Chicago Sun-Times.
